Al-Nassr striker, Cristiano Ronaldo, was reduced to tears as his team lost the King’s Cup on penalties to Al-Hilal. The match ended 1-1 after regulation time.
Al-Hilal’s Aleksandar Mitrovic scored the opener with a header past David Ospina. Just before halftime, Bono made a crucial save to deny Ronaldo, intensifying Al-Nassr’s frustration. The situation worsened for Al-Nassr after the restart when Ospina received a red card for handling the ball outside the area to stop Malcom, who was through on goal.
Al-Hilal appeared to be in control until Ali Albulayhi received his second yellow card with three minutes remaining. Ayman Yahya then equalized for Al-Nassr, and shortly after, Kalidou Koulibaly was also sent off, leaving Al-Hilal without both center-backs.
Extra time failed to produce a winner, leading to a penalty shootout. Ruben Neves missed Al-Hilal’s first penalty, hitting the post, and Alex Telles also failed to score for Al-Nassr. Mitrovic scored his penalty, and Ronaldo converted his as well. Both teams scored the majority of their penalties until Al-Nassr’s substitute, Meshari Al Nember, who had a chance to win it in extra time, missed his decisive penalty.
